AESTHETIC & SPECIALIZED LABOR
Operating a facility that ministers to homeless people is often very demanding on the building itself. A lot of dirt, a lot of abuse, a lot of use, and some rough play often stain floors, dirty walls, chip paint, break furniture, and shorten the longevity of aesthetics.
Regardless, our desire is to create an environment that makes guests and residents feel welcome and celebrated; space that meets the diverse needs of our guests and residents; to create worker-friendly workspace that promotes relational conversation, creativity, vision and team cohesion; to create an explicit learning environment for guests, residents and workers.
We cannot do this without the effort and gifts of volunteers. Usually, the inside of our building needs to be repainted about once every year. Sometimes furniture breaks. Sometimes trends change so quickly that a little homeless shelter like us finds ourselves out of pace with technology and the surrounding community. Much like the folks we serve, we depend on the compassion of others.
We are always in need of people to help us paint, do specialized work (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, carpet installation, etc.) and do other aesthetic related projects. Please, write to Kerry Spencer at Darrell Johnson to learn more about specific projects. With a building of our size and our list of labor needs, we can accommodate any size group.
